Něco málo live zaznamů kapely D.U.B jak se mi je povedlo poněkud nekvalitně nahrát. Navíc se najde občas i něco z oblasti PC hardware.
Few records of mine favorite music band D.U.B and some PC hardware related stuff.

I experienced this back in the day, I think it was integrated into a motherboard. It was hilarious to attach the integrated GPU to the Voodoo, which actually worked.
so the military industrial complex helped develop glquake
I think the Virge 325 was aimed at 80486 based systems as evidenced by the fact that the chip has a VLB mode along side the PCI one.
i wonder if we can use AI to build better drivers and see if its a software issue or hardware issue
I have afew still and they work! Use one in my pentium 60 win95 rig
I worked on the CL5465 and the originator or named on most of the patents for this part, we were transistor limited to about 25 million transistors on the die as this was to be a low cost card.. so naturally it was missing a lot of features of later hardware. But we were first to do AGP and it was capable of a high 25 pixel triangle count of around 2.5 million triangle per second, but the setup engine was missing and we had to do it all on the host which limited our maximum output to around 200k triangles. The pentium was awful at floating point and the triangle setup was pretty intensive,. Also... there was no D3D spec when this was designed, there was OpenGL but we didn't have the gate budget to go full OpenGL.. transparency required multipliers and a read back path which would also cost more in gates so it was a no go. All in all it did as expected, you could bank textures in host memory and it operated as a true bus master for display list operations which is how we measured triangle performance. On a PCI bus it was capable of about 100 MB / sec which was near maximum for the time and there were some fairly complex memory optimizations for tiled memory and texture caching which were patented and eventually sold to Nvidia over time. It's tragic that the Cirrus Logic bailed once Intel announced that they were entering the graphics space with the 740, CL gave up 500 million dollars in revenue on a 1 billion dollar company revenue. Most of our designers for the 5465 ended up at Nvidia and the Intel graphics market never really materialized.
The whole point of 3D accelerator cards is to offload floating-point-heavy tasks (such as triangle setup) to the ASIC circuitry of the card, if the management of Cirrus Logic didn't allow for enough transistors to do triangle setup on the card, that's on them, not on the Pentium (which had an impressive floating-point performance for its time). Also, did you ever consider faking transparency with a checkerboard pattern like the Matrox Mystique did? (see relevant video in this channel)
I suspect that the Permedia 2 here had not enough VRAM for the textures...
The graphics may be bad, but DAT AUDIO THOUGH.... I legit thought alternate music was swapped in at 2:00. Like it doesn't even sound like a glitched version of the original audio, it sounds like its own thing.
They didn't nickname this card the "Matrox Mistake" for nothing 😂
The ending... I was expecting some test runs of those fabled PowerSGL games like "Ultim@te Racer", "Moon Racer", MechWarrior 2, and others that display graphic card chipset specific features and to see if there were any benefits to how those older games were rendered on the old versus newer card...
But the human eye can't see more than 15fps....
so, is the cpu the bottleneck here, or just the fillrate?
Can find powerVR in many setop boxs, dash screens in cars or factories, iphone and more these days
Most servers back then used ati rage 2c to rage 128 chips onboard for display out.
creo que éste video debería ser preservado como un legado de la humanidad.
This video is pointless. S3 Virge was never meant to compete with Voodoo 1.
Why does croc look filteted?
I prefere the colour tones of the Matrox card by far, just needs a 3D accelerator strapped on it but I genuinely think it does colours better despite the choppy performance and texture problems.
讓我想起 mystique + M3D 的日子……
Otherwise reffered to as the Matrox Mistake. haha... but frame rate back in the day wasn't always everything. I had the priviledge of owning a Voodoo2 card, ATI Rage Pro, STB Velocity 4400 (nvidia), and a Matrox G400. For the most part, the Voodoo2 was the smoothest and overall best, but there were many times I preferred running the ATI Rage Pro over it because the image quality on the Voodoo was always washed out in comparison. The Nvidia card while also fast, and image quality between those two often hitched and made the game unenjoyable. I ended up settling on the G400 because of it's amazing colors, definition of image, and overall picture quality, while still offering smooth frame rates. It seemed to just work. I was really dissappointed the Matrox Parhelia didn't do better, because it would have been great to have an extra player in the 3D card game today, but ATI hit a home run with their next gen and dominated everyone putting to bed even 3dfx, and nearly bankrupting nvidia. If it wasn't for Sony bailing them out, Nvidia would be bankrupt. Wild times.
The marketing on these cards were terrible. Remember the weird jester they used in their PC Mag ads? lol
two radeon x1900 xtx connect via crossfire cable to ati mach64gt on motherboard with intel core 2 quad qx6700 conroe processor install windows xp professional then computer game half life 2 will run normally with high graphics settings
oh I thought this was a 2D card
Along with the MilleniumII still my favorite card for older PCs - speed and picture quality(Rivas are nice too). Only downside is they have no VESA 320x200x16/32 support out of the box unlike some other older cards. I think I got my first Mystique in December of 1995 and never got it to work on my P60 in windows due to resource conflicts.
What api or mode did you use to get this running with some acceleration?
Also is very surprising i think this version of HL playable with all this translucent walls ! very funny and very strange technicalluy speaking, how is it possible ? z-buffer or something missing ?
Not so surprising, since we see BSP and PVS (Potentially Visible Space) algorithms in action, I think. Eg. in 22:47 - 22:48, when loading of (still) normally hidden wall is seen thru the translucent one. This video is really great educational material.
Hahaha i love this psychedelic version of Croc, haha ! :D
Well that's not so bad, frankly. It might be the least worst game card tested here, no ? :)
3D deccelerator
These videos should be on a separate tech channel
i had this in 1998 and played games on software 2d rendering. my next card was a voodoo3 2000 16mb ram this was after 2 years of struggling with 2d software rendering. glidefx amazed me. i finished carmageddon 1 on s3virge 2d 4mb sdram in one year. i finished carmageddon on voodoo in one week :))) . even played delta force online. counter strike on vga res. now i have a 7900xtx, frustration can be noticed easily.
Warhammer: Dark Omen mentioned! Great game, and pain in the ass to run on modern PC, somewhat made easier by dgVoodoo. Great video, shame 3D Rage is such a trainwreck
Matrox Mystique - I bought this card [1997] because I couldn't afford anything better or more expensive, it served me for about 3-4 years until I replaced my PC, I have many nice memories with this equipment, if you don't have what you like, you like what you have !
Just buyed one for 20 bucks. This card is awesome fast in plain DOS. For accelerated 3D a voodoo sits beside.
3dfx voodoo 1 dont support Direct3D, only support Glide and OpenGL.
Let me guess, you would prefer a S3 Trio 3D 2x with 4 or 8Mb without any difference? That for sure is one the worst cards ever produced and far bellow the SIS 6326. SIS did a great job for it's time, just by providing onboard IGPs better than some cards available specially from S3. You really don't know what you are dealing with.
S3 Trio3D 2X is just updated Virge GX2. And Virge GX2 is slightly updated Virge DX core... basically with SDRAM and SGRAM support... which was released as Virge GX before. But in 3D, it's same powerful as Virge DX, with slighty boost in megaherz. You are comparing 1996 technology with late 1997 , of course SIS wins in this case. Competitor to S3 Trio3D 2X is Rage IIc AGP.
This SIS card tried to compete with Riva 128 64-bit version (original was 128-bit), Ati Rage Pro EDO version, and first versions Matrox Mystique (so not Mystique 220)
@@warrax111 S3 Virge GX2 was far better than S3 Trio 3D 2X. You can't play games like Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3D, Slave Zero amoung others on a S3 Trio 3D 2X, Star Wars The Phantom Menace playability is just horrible with graphical issues and black squares here and there. But you can play all these games on a S3 Virge GX2 and in all SIS graphics cards as long as they have 3D acceleration.
This is approximately what 3DO 2 graphics would have looked like. I'm sure the performance would be slightly higher without Direct3D weighing it down 😂
Of course, and the lack of optimization too. On the other hand, this is paired with a much, much faster CPU. The 3DO 2 exists as an arcade Machine though. The Konami M2.
@@MalheirodsAlso the Voodoo Dreamcast as the Konami Viper
makes the gt210 look like some kind of space age marvel in comparison.
Much better than RTX 4090 💯🔥
Don't forget to mention the low frequency noise it seems to cause in your footage. And well, with textures looking like shit and alpha blending not working, the framerate doesn't really matter...
Great with the voodoo 1
The most common weakness I'm noticing with these very early pre-voodoo 3D cards is texturing. They almost all either just absolutely butcher the texture quality, leave them out entirely or have a ton of glitchy artifacts. Or in the case of the S3 ViRGE, are horrendously slow when drawing them.
Wait wait wait. It's 96/97. That card was resly great. Ok Alpha + bilinear missing but there were patches fixing problems. And You forgot to mention about special games for this card, still I have them at my home. All in all great card, perfect for 2D + 3Dfx 3D compatibility.
For comparison, here is Amiga AGA graphics performance: ruclips.net/video/rGBUzfMWVsM/видео.html
this is the result of not having a linear address map. Quake for pc does not use any of the vga features, and just prints a snapshot of the rendered viewport. So you are seeing the raw performance loading a single fram in the VGA dram. Perhaps some recycling paging would help, but VGA is not prepared for this kind-of games.
I played Half Life 1 and NFS3. 320x240. When I upped it to 640x480 the frames were in single digit. Then I upgraded to GeForce 2 GTS and experienced the same games smooth as butter at 1280x1024.
How to achieve that crazy-amazing bokeh??
Pretty good when paired with some 3D-only cards of the time
Interesting video. We had several of those in our NT workstations at that time, mostly in relation to 3D content creation (Lightwave, 3D Studio MAX, AutoCAD etc.). Too bad it all became e-waste pretty fast.
I've been looking for this card for a year and never seen any, not even on eBay. Why is it so rare? 😀
OEM only sold in few premade computers. I think it never went on market as standalone card. That happened with RAGE II, which is much more common. Also sold only few months.
No one doubts that all graphics chips from Alliance are crap. However, it is possible that a bit smaller than we could see. Why? Some old graphics such as S3 VirgeVX and DX were sensitive to which PCI slot they were inserted into, depending on the used chipset (VIA). They gave less power, or it made errors in the sound, or other nonsense. It seems to me that the bad sound in the video indicates that the AT3D somehow communicates poorly via PCI, and subsequently it affects what is happening on the sound board. So it could be a similar situation. It might be worth trying a card on a motherboard with an Intel chipset from that era (such as something with an i430HX or VX). Something may have gone wrong during development and the chip may have a problem with a newer PCI implementation or with specific PCI slots. It's just speculation though, I don't have it tracked for this particular chip unlike others.
I think that issues might be from Gigabyte board as i recently tried to test chromatic mpact cards on it and on both cards i got i didnt get through boot screen (always freeze). when i tried aopen board with same cpu, ram i got into windows. So i guess gigabyte wasn't most compactible board around. Sadly chromatic cards video is not possible, as im unable to find any working driver - they had vendorlocked drivers, that didnt work with other brands....
